Don’t you love seeing tons of comments flooding your blog post? I do love to see that and if you can generate over 100 comments for a single post, I bet you are already famous out there. So, why you don’t get readers to comment in your blog despite a good traffic already?
Don’t receive comments in your blog?
Here are some reasons why:
- Your content is boring.
- Your content does not end with a way that readers can comment.
- You don’t give benefits to people for reading your content.
I am not going to talk about the first two points here but I will only focus on the 3rd point here, which is rewarding your readers. So, how do you reward your readers for commentating in your blog? These are the things that I do:
1. Reward them dofollow links. In the default WordPress settings, the commentator’s website link is usually set to nofollow. This means that if Google sees this attribute, they will treat it as not important and will not give any weight in SEO. By removing the nofollow attribute (which means dofollow on the other half), the links will be treated as important by Google and some PageRank juice will be pass over to the commentator’s site. Making your commentating section dofollow will greatly benefits your readers and it certainly encourage more people to comment.
2. Enable Keyword. Usually, I will moderate comments in a very strict way where I don’t allow users to comment with Keyword as their name. I prefer real name and I think everyone else is the same. As a result, you can enable your readers to comment with their keyword just like what I did for this blog. You will be able to keep their real name and at the same time, they get to build some backlinks with their anchor text.
3. Integrate with Twitter. Although the effect of this method is not as much as the two above, integrating Twitter ID can do some impact as well. Especially to the bloggers who highly active in Twitter would want people to know what is their Twitter ID. It might also benefit you as the blog administrator if you have the habit of following Twitter users to gain followers.
4. Reward top commentator. Rewarding the top readers who put off the most comments in your blog is a good way to attract more readers to return back to your blog and comment. They will keep commenting in order to be one of the top commentators out there.
5. Blog post sharing. This method is to allow your readers to share one of their 10 recent blog post from their site as they comment on your blog. By letting them able to share out their most interesting recent post, you will also gain more comments in your blog.
The drawback of these techniques
Implementing the 5 plugins I mentioned above into your blog will slightly affect your blog loading speed. Instead of installing 5 plugins, I invested into only one plugin which is the CommentLuv Premium to help me to integrate all the 5 plugins above plus and additional anti-spam plugin.
The anti-spam plugin is also in the package is because by enabling all these features, it is expected that your blog will attract low quality link builders to spam your site. You can read more from my post on how to fight spam commentators.
And the conclusion is…
There are certain blog administrators who are against giving dofollow links simply because it will cause heavy moderation to their site.
It is really up to you whether you willing to moderate them or not.
As for me, I don’t mind moderating comments together with my techniques of fighting spammers. I will prefer to work more and at the same time, reward my readers for commenting on my blog.
