Four Misconception on the purpose of blog commenting

I have a question for you here: Why do you comment on other people’s blog?

Be very honest to yourself because you don’t have to write it down here now.

All you need is to tell yourself why you want to comment on other people’s blog.

You don’t have to tell me yours yet but just listen to mine below.

I had been dropping blog comments to build traffic on my site for over the year and here are my misconceptions on blog commenting.

#1 – Be the first

I always think that by being the first to comment, I will get lots of traffic from that particular blog.

That is true but you can’t get a lot of traffic by just being the first.

Being the first to comment is just probably 30% of what it takes to get traffic from blog commenting.

So, don’t think that if you rush to drop the first comments on every blog will win you good traffic.

#2 – Improve SEO

I used to only comment on do-follow enabled blogs and ignore all the no-follow blogs because I think Google care a lot about this relationship when we talk about SEO.

Since I thought I understand Google so well, I ended up building lots of links from comments but in the end, I see no improvement in SERP at all.

Why is it so? Because the PageRank juice of that page is shared among all commentators and the more people comment on the page, the lesser each commentator is going to get.

#3 – More comments = More traffic

Unfortunately, “the more the merrier” does not apply to building more comments for more traffic.

I had tried commenting into 10 different blogs in a day and generate less than 10 visitors to my site.

I had also tried commenting into only one site and it generates more than 10 traffic from that site only.

It is not about the quantity. It is also not only about the quality of your comment.

Your comment matters as much as the site’s quality.

If you comment with the right quality of comment on the right site, then that is the key to a successful blog commenting.

#4 – Appreciate by saying Thank You

I used to drop a lot of ‘thank you’ or ‘great post’ comments last time because I thought it is a proper manner to say thank you when someone do a good job in feeding me the information I need.

But I was wrong and I only realize this after I begin to moderate all the ‘thank you’ and ‘great post’ comments.

You don’t appreciate a content just by saying Thank You because I am sure you have something more to say.

To be very frank with you, it is extremely annoying to reply to those comments.

It is like typing “You are welcome” on my notepad, Ctrl + C (Copy), and keep CTRL + V (Paste) on every reply.

I only manage to do it for two consecutive days and I gave up replying.

I also begin to moderate in the way if there is a Thank You post coming from an anonymous person, I will hit the “Delete Permanently” button.

Sorry for being harsh, but it is really really annoying.
