From time to time, whenever you stumble an awesome post, the first thing you would most likely do is to subscribe to the blog either RSS, Facebook, Twitter or whatever that is available.
But sometimes before you attempt to subscribe, you might just want to check out what is the blog offering and who is the author.
It is kind of annoying where at times, I couldn’t find the About page of a blog. To me, it is a necessity and I really can’t find any reason not to have it.
So, if you are starting a blog or had been blogging for some time, have an About page which describes what your blog is all about if you haven’t.
3 things that your About page must have
There are many strategies of writing an about page and here are the essentials stuff that I personally think MUST have:
- An introduction. Every single post or page should always start with an introduction. Don’t straight away jump to the features or what to expect from your blog. Let your readers have an idea first what your blog is all about in the first 1-2 sentence.
- Things that you are going to write. You need to let your readers know what you are going to write which in other words, is the niche of your blog. This is to avoid yourself in getting the wrong subscribers which will eventually unsubscribe from your blog.
- Subscription to your blog. Sometimes, it is good to end your About page with the subscription such as RSS, Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and etc. As soon as your reader finished reading your About page, they might just subscribe and you gained one readership from there.
Apart from that, some bloggers will have some biography about themselves and it is not a bad idea to do it. Some however will split the About the Author into another page and another page just About the blog.
Here are some examples of a good About page.
Although you might not have an About page like the experts above, but start with telling a little bit about yourself. It is a good way to let your readers to know you better.
And lastly, didn’t you realize that they have a picture about themselves? Yes, put it BIG so that people can even wave to you when they see you on the street. š

Hey Alan,
When visiting new blogs i always check out the about page to see who is the mastermind behind the operation. I’m disappointed when they have a page but no real information them is present and when no picture has been uploaded. We need to show our face for people to connect with us.
