Generally, I wouldn’t say there are many types of blog in this world.
If you are going to start a blog today, I am going to ask you only one question which is, “Are you going to make money from it?”.
Before answering me or yourself, I would just like to give a little explanation on the types of blog that I had encountered with.
Types of blog
- Hobby/Diary blog. This type of blog is not intended to make money at first usually. The reason people who has this type of blog is to share their life with their friends. The target audience is usually small unless it gets really really popular. This type of blog is also the first thought from many people on what a blog is.
- Niche blog. Internet marketers and bloggers like to use the term ‘niche’ to tell people that their blog has a specific interest. For instance a blog with security niche will only blog about security from day 1 till the end. The reason people start a niche blog is to capture a group of audience with the similar interest.
- Micro-Niche blog. A micro-niche blog has a more specific interest compare to a niche blog. Give you an example here: A niche blog could be a ‘security blog’ while a micro-niche blog could be a blog on ‘how to stay secure in Facebook’. Usually a micro-niche blog is used to monetize with Google Adsense and Affiliate Products which these two terms I will talk about more in the future.
- Portfolio blog. I wouldn’t call this a blog but today there are many people who are very skillful in a specific interest will start a blog to showcase their talents and customer’s testimonials. The purpose is to gain confident on their potential customer and to create a landing page for their potential customer to start up with.
The types of blog that will make money
In fact, all the blogs mentioned above can make money but I would like to specifically talk about only two types of blog here which is the niche blog and the micro-niche.
A niche blog is very common today. As long as you stay focus in writing within your niche, you will not only gain readership but also keep your existing readers happy. On the making money side, a niche blog is usually capable of making money from advertisements, selling affiliate products, services, and Google Adsense. Usually, I would recommend people to start thinking about the niche that they want to focus into and start a niche blog right after that.
A micro niche blog on the other side is a little difficult to generate content because at times, it can be too niche. As a result, usually a micro-niche blog contains only a few pages and those pages are targeted with specific keywords to drive search engine traffic. Advertisers will reluctant to advertise on this type of blog except for Google Adsense. You will only down to only few monetization strategies such as Google Adsense and selling affiliate product.
Back to you now, are you going to make money from your blog?
If NO, I might not be able to help you further because I do blog for money and I don’t know how to do it the other way.
People say you should not think about making money from a blog in the early stage because it might ruin the development of your blog. But I say, start thinking early about it because that is going to be your objective. As long as you do it the right way, it is not going to ruin your blog.
