How to start an internet business today

Starting an internet business is not as difficult as what you think.

Depending on the nature of your business, you don’t really need to invest a lot before running an internet business for certain niche.

For instance, certain business might only need an idea and a website to run. That’s it!

So, running an internet business is not really a difficult thing here.

In this entry, I will guide you on how to start an internet business from scratch generally.

1. Find your niche

The first thing that you need to do is to find the niche that you want to run your internet business with.

For the start, I highly recommend you to start with something that you really love and passionate.

There is no point for you to go for something profitable but you don’t have the interest to work on because your business will fall somewhere when you started to get bored with it.

As a result, I would rather have you going for something that is less profitable, but you love doing it because there are tons of ways for you to monetize on the internet where you don’t have to worry whether your niche can make money.

So, let’s leave the money making planning later on and find your niche first.

In order for you to determine your niche, one of the method which I had implemented on myself is to start all of them at the same time.

When I first started blogging for money, I run 3 blogs at the same time which are a IT security blog, a football gossip blog and a blog which contains collection of jokes.

On the first week itself, I saw the fall of my jokes collection blog and a month later, I saw the fall of my football gossip blog.

As for my IT security blog, I continue to update fresh content from weekly, to daily and a year later, I managed to publish content daily with the help of guest post.

My point here is that it is important that you are doing the things that you like so that your business will grow in the way that you will not stop in the middle.

2. Monetizing Strategy

Making money is probably the next thing you should think of.

Some experience online business entrepreneurs however will start to plan their monetizing strategy before looking into the niche but assuming that you are new to internet business, starting off with your niche is a better choice.

There are plenty of ways that you can make money online from a single website. Referring back to me as a case study here, there are couple of method I monetize my IT security blog.

First, I implemented Google Adsense because it is the easiest way to implement and back to that time, having your Adsense application approved is not really an issue.

After the blog started to pick up some traffic, I begin to explore other alternatives and I had found several affiliate marketing network.

Monetizing from affiliate marketing can be tough to start but once you gain the trust of your readers, you will realize that it can actually make more money than Adsense or direct advertising.

Apart from that, I had also tried selling advertisement space on my blog directly by approaching business owner that is within the IT security niche.

Selling advertisement space can be a tough job because you really need a lot of traffic in order to be able to quote for a higher price.

Besides all these money making method that I had implemented, there are still other kind of method that online entrepreneurs are doing such as providing professional service, consultation, paid membership content, ebooks and many more.

As a conclusion, there are many ways to earn money online. For the start if you have not figured out your monetizing strategy, you can start off with Google Adsense as it is the easiest to implement. Once you have build your trust with your readers, you can start affiliate marketing or even creating your own product and sell.

3. Create a domain name

Creating a domain is almost like naming your business.

Always try to name your domain name as close as your business name or even it is best to name them the same.

For instance, my business name ‘Latte Hosting’ actually start off with a domain name registration and then only I register it as an official business name in my country.

Some do it the other way round but because I am so concerned that I can’t get a similar domain name as my business name, I started off with domain name registration.

So, what is a good domain name?

I defined a good domain name as:

• Short and easy to remember (Maximum 10 – 15 characters)
• Does not contain numbers and hyphens
• Always end with .com

Even if you like it .org, .net or .my in my case, always buy the .com as well an do a redirect to your favourite extension.

So, spend some time to find a good domain name as it will follow you for as long as your business is active.

4. Create a website

A website is extremely important for an internet business because it is a place for you to showcase your services and present your business.

Creating a website today is not as difficult as before.

You can easily deploy a super simple website with the WordPress CMS in minutes.

I personally build the Latte Hosting website with all the standard start-up content such as Contact Page, About Page, Services Page and Home Page in just 24 hours of work.

Of course this is on top I already had deployed a couple of WordPress site before and I am quite sure on what to do from A-Z.

If you are new to WordPress, you might need some time to pick up but that should not take long because the learning curve is not high and there are plenty of resources to guide you on the internet.

Finally…

So, starting an internet business is not really a difficult thing.

I’m sure if you put your time and effort into it, you can have your business started within 24-48 hours.
